We want to know about former Incels’ experiences joining and leaving the Incel community. We’re especially interested in your perspectives on what can be done to support the health and well-being of current and former Incels and their communities.

We’re conducting three rounds of interviews over the course of a year. Each participant will be asked to give an interview when they sign up, 6 months later, and then 12 months later. We hope that participants will sign up for all three interviews, but all participants are free to drop out of the study at any time.

After each interview, we will send participants a transcript of their own and ask for feedback about whether their words have been described well.

Participants will receive a gift card worth $30 Canadian for each interview they participate in.

We do everything possible to protect our participants’ identities and information. We won’t ask your name or for any identifying information other than your age and email. Interview recordings and transcripts will only be available to our research team, and when we publish our results, we take great care to make sure nothing that could be used to identify an individual participant is ever made public.

We plan to use the information to support journal articles, conference presentations, policy recommendations, and other resources about what can be done to reduce the risks that people who are Incels, might be Incels in the future, used to be Incels, and the people around them might experience.

No, they will not. Many people who refer others to join our research are people who we have never contacted us, so we may not even know who they are. Even if we have had contact with them, we won’t tell them whether you participate and what you share with us if you do participate. Your choices about your participation won’t impact the person who referred you in any way.
